Purpose Statement

That we will obey the Great Commandment (Matthew 22:37-40, Jesus replied, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it; Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”)

And the Great Commission (Matthew 18:19-20, Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, even to the very end of the ages.”)

By bringing people to faith in Jesus Christ, encouraging them toward Christ-like maturity and equipping them for ministry through the local church in order to glorify God.

The Church Family of the First Baptist Church, Jennings seeks to accomplish our purpose through the following elements:

WORSHIP-Our greatest privilege is to worship God. The worship of God is our ultimate priority. In essence, we believe that it is the central truth of the Great Commandment. Personal, private devotional worship is important. Corporate and collective worship is also commended by God.

DISCIPLESHIP-Jesus invited people to follow Him. Discipleship is about being a follower of Jesus Christ. As we learn to follow Him, we will fulfill the Great Commission and the Great Commandment. A disciple is also a learner. We learn about Jesus Christ through studying God’s Word, the Bible, and praying. God uses His God-called preachers and teachers to help us learn about Him and what His plans for us are all about.

EVANGELISM/MISSIONS-The heart of the Great Commission is evangelism or missions. These are not different but the same. Jesus Christ commanded His followers to go make disciples of all nations. Obedience to this requires intentional and personal involvement of sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ with people who do not know Him personally.

FELLOWSHIP-We are social beings who need fellowship with God and with other believers. Other believers will encourage and challenge us to live for Christ and hold us accountable.
